Tennessee

SEC · 2026 season

The story so far

Tennessee fans spent the season torn between a defense they learned to trust and Heupel's game management they never did, with the freshman QB hype fading into a switch to George MacIntire. Euphoria over Alabama collapsed into bitterness at South Carolina, leaving fans at 6-2 feeling robbed.

Season-long

  • Complaints about Heupel failing to put teams away, wasting timeouts and calling conservative plays ran nearly all season, peaking when a failed 4th-and-1 against South Carolina left some blaming execution instead.
