SadFans (sadfans.app, sadfans.ai and the SadFans app) measures how sports fanbases feel about their teams. We collect as little about you as we can. We don’t sell your data, and we don’t run ads.

What we collect from visitors

  • Anonymous usage analytics. Your browser gets a random ID and a session ID, kept in local storage and never linked to your name. We record page views, clicks and time on the site so we know what people use.
  • Push notifications, if you turn them on. We store your browser’s push subscription and the teams you follow, and delete the subscription when it stops working or you turn notifications off.
  • What you send us. Waitlist emails and feedback (with an optional email or handle) are used only to reply and to tell you when the app launches.
  • The app signs you in anonymously. Anything you add, such as chats or friends, is tied to that anonymous account.

Public fan posts

The Misery Index is built from public posts and comments fans make about games on Reddit, X, Threads and similar sites. We store the text, its public username, time and engagement counts, and we may quote or link a post on our site or social accounts, crediting the author. We don’t collect private messages or anything that isn’t already public.

Our social accounts (Meta and X)

We use the Threads, Instagram and Facebook APIs, and the X API, to publish posts to our own accounts. We also read the insights, replies, comments and mentions on our own posts so we can see how they perform and respond. With Meta’s approval, we search public Threads posts and read public Threads profiles to find fan reactions to games that we may quote, always crediting the author. We don’t use this data for advertising, and we don’t sell or share it with data brokers.

Who we share it with

Only the services that run SadFans: Cloudflare (hosting), Supabase (database), and the AI providers we use to score and summarize public fan posts. They process data on our behalf.

How long we keep it

Analytics and the replies and mentions we collect from our own social posts are kept for up to 90 days. Public fan posts used in the Misery Index are kept as part of each season’s record unless the author asks us to remove them.

Your choices

You can clear the analytics ID by clearing site data in your browser, and turn off notifications at any time. To have your data or your posts removed, see data deletion or use our contact form.

Children

SadFans isn’t meant for anyone under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top. Questions go to our contact form.
