Oklahoma

SEC · 2026 season

The story so far

Oklahoma fans spent the season fixated on Mateer and an offense they called broken, with anger spreading from Arbuckle to Venables as the losses piled up. A shocking win over Texas offered brief relief, but the South Carolina blowout left them in mutinous despair at 4-4.

what fans talked about, week by week
Season-long

  • Fans hammered Mateer every week for staring down receivers and missing open targets, briefly praised his Mississippi State game, then declared the Heisman hype never warranted after South Carolina.

“John Mateer might be the worst college QB I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen Jackson Arnold play”
