ACC · 2026 season

The story so far

Cal fans spent the season fixated on Tosh Lupoi's inexperienced staff, and brief relief after wins over Syracuse and VT kept collapsing into fresh despair. Now 3-6 and at misery 97, many concede Tosh likely stays because of the reported $18M buyout.

Season-long
  • Early hope in a first-time staff curdled through screen-heavy losses and Somerville's ouster, and by Wk 9 fans called Tosh clueless yet likely unfireable given the reported $18M buyout.

“At this point I am convinced the playcalling is purposefully terrible to tank JKS numbers so he doesn't get as many transfer offers... Like okay we are going to be rebuilding I don't expect many wins and I also expect ugly games. But all these plays are just so extra and confusing. Let JKS air the ball out. Hopefully Tosh can work some magic and still get good players for next season. Maybe hand over the offensive playcalling to Rolovich. At least the 49ers always look competent (even when injured)...”
