Virginia Tech

ACC · 2026 season

The story so far

Virginia Tech fans opened the James Franklin era euphoric, then grew uneasy as ugly wins and third-quarter fades piled up. Losses to Pitt and Cal sparked bitter rage at the refs, and wins over GT and Clemson leave them 6-2 in stunned relief.

Season-long

  • From the CW crew in Week 2 to five-minute commercial timeouts in Week 8, fans blamed refs and broadcasters nearly every week, peaking with claims the refs handed Pitt 14 points.

“is james franklin sleeping with the head of officiating's wife? were we supposed to earmark some of the football investment for kickbacks or something? what in the world did we do to the ACC refs to get the last two weeks of officiating”
