What happened

Virginia Tech opened the season by dismantling VMI 73-3, and the Hokie fanbase, starved for a reason to smile, took the win exactly as offered. The turning point came early, when the margin got silly enough that the message boards stopped bracing for disaster and started enjoying themselves. One fan called it "the best game I've ever seen," which says less about VMI than about the recent past. Another shrugged: "felt good, don't care if it was basically a d2 team lol." At 1-0, nobody's asking follow-up questions yet.
