Five points short at Cal, Hokie fans have moved past grief into a full forensic audit of ACC officiating.
The emotional rollercoaster
Virginia Tech fans’ misery during the game, every 15 minutes. Up is worse.
What happened
Five points in Berkeley, and the Hokies fell 20-25, dropping to 4-2 with a misery number that jumped from 81 to 95 in seven days. The turning point wasn't a snap so much as a flag: another pass interference call that flipped the complexion of the afternoon and sent the fanbase hunting for conspiracies. One asked whether "james franklin" was "sleeping with the head of officiating's wife." Another wanted every PI reviewed. When the striped shirts become the main character twice in a row, the schedule stops feeling like the problem.
What fans said
“is james franklin sleeping with the head of officiating's wife? were we supposed to earmark some of the football investment for kickbacks or something? what in the world did we do to the ACC refs to get the last two weeks of officiating”
