The emotional rollercoaster
Fan misery across the week, every six hours. Up is worse. Dashed lines are games.
What happened
Three wins in five, and the mood in Washington lifted like a fog. Lile kept mashing through the Phillies split, but the turn came in St. Louis, where a 9-1 laugher gave fans permission to enjoy something: CJ hit 30/30, and by the 8-5 follow-up the math was out — 72 wins, the franchise's best since 2019. Cavalli signed through 2030, the farm system got rave reviews, and someone requested Washington Monument foul poles. A 3-5 loss barely registered. Hope, in September, is disorienting.
