What happened
A 6-3 and 7-2 start in Texas had the fanbase gleefully embracing spoiler duty — "let's cause all the chaos" — before the 1-3 finale reminded contenders they "might have to win on your own." The 6-7 loss in Washington was the turn, Alvarez's bases-loaded double play drawing the week's sharpest venom. Ewing's homer in the 7-1 win was "glorious," then 4-6 closed it at 74-88. Misery dipped to 60, which counts as progress from a "slow motion car crash.
