What happened

One win in six, and it came early enough to feel like a taunt. The 5-2 night in Houston had fans muttering that April through June had already buried this thing. The turn came in Pittsburgh: Vinnie Pasquantino homered, the Royals lost 5-8 anyway, then dropped 5-6 and 3-4 to finish 67-89. Ninth-inning leads got mentioned a lot. So did Black Monday. Mostly, though, the fanbase has stopped predicting a firing and started predicting nothing at all, which is worse.
