What happened
Chicago went badly enough to test the faith: a 3-7 opener, a 4-8 rubber-game loss, and misery spiking into the seventies between them, salvaged only by a 6-3 win that had fans gleefully imagining Philadelphia media throwing up. Then Houston fixed everything. The 6-2 Friday opener flipped the week, and 6-3 and 4-2 followed, dropping misery to 10. At 92-64 with the magic number at 2, the board's chief anxiety is now correctly rooting against the Phillies rather than for the Mets.
