The emotional rollercoaster
Virginia fans’ misery during the game, every 15 minutes. Up is worse.
What happened
Thursday night against Duke, Virginia lost 16-19, and the turning point was less a single play than the dawning recognition, somewhere in the second half, that the offense had no further ideas. The fanbase went to 4-4 and straight past disappointment into something uglier. One fan called for "the live-streamed execution of known football terrorist Tony Elliot" on the Lawn. Another wanted Des Kitchings gone, then conceded "Elliot will never fire him." Misery nudged up to 96, which in Charlottesville now counts as stability.
