What happened
Stanford came to South Bend and left in pieces, 58-7, and Notre Dame moved to 6-0 without breaking stride. The turning point wasn't on the field; it was the moment the margin got large enough that the fanbase stopped watching the game and started watching the committee. Within an hour the math police arrived: "You're telling me we're only 6 points better than Wake? Smh, gonna miss the playoff again." Someone else was already dreading Aneyas at the goal line. Fifty-one points, and the dread found a seat anyway.
