Mississippi State opened against UL Monroe and never bothered pretending it would be close, winning 62-13 and moving to 1-0. The turning point came somewhere in the pile of yards, when the offense blew past the school record and the scoreboard operator started earning overtime. Fans counted the total out loud in disbelief: "holy shit 762 yards of offense." Another, steadier, noted that "we broke a school record for total yards with 762, and our QB looks the real deal." September optimism is undefeated too, for now.
