What happened
Minnesota beat Akron 41-7, which is precisely what beating Akron is supposed to look like, and the fanbase accepted it with the enthusiasm of someone depositing a refund check. The turning point was less a play than a realization sometime in the second half: the scoreboard had stopped being information. One fan called it "cashing the check from Michigan." Another shrugged that the Zips came "on consignment from Nebraska." At 2-1, the Gophers have answered nothing, comfortably. Misery eased to 57, which is its own kind of verdict.
