W 39-3 vs Iowa State · Sat, Oct 24 · 6-1 overall
Misery Index · Euphoric
A 39-3 dismantling of Iowa State has Tucson passing the hat for a statue nobody has even designed yet.
The emotional rollercoaster
Arizona fans’ misery during the game, every 15 minutes. Up is worse.
What happened
Arizona fans spent Saturday waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it never did. The turning point came early, when Iowa State's offense stalled and stayed stalled, leaving the visitors stuck on a field goal all afternoon in a 39-3 win that pushed the Wildcats to 6-1. The misery index read 6, which in Tucson counts as unfamiliar territory. One fan, apparently unprompted, offered to bankroll bronze: "I don't make much but I will fund a statue." Hope is expensive here, and somebody's already budgeting.
