The emotional rollercoaster

Fan misery across the week, every six hours. Up is worse. Dashed lines are games.

What happened

Washington opened the week convinced of its own greatness, beating Philadelphia 5-2 and edging Nashville 4-3, with one fan announcing "We've got a flipping team here, Joe!!" Then came the turning point, a 1-5 loss to Minnesota that sank the mood. The officials took the blame, with one fan calling a high-sticking call on Sourdif the work of a ref "genuinely blind." Misery still fell from 68 to 48, though a fanbase that asked "who paid the refs for Philly to win" during a 5-2 victory was never going to lose quietly.
