The Lakers split four games and still sit at 5-2, which did nothing to calm anyone. A 129-136 home loss to Portland was blamed on "Flopfest, refball, foul baiting," before a 103-87 rout of the Clippers had "VANDO NATION" riding. Then came the turning point: a 95-112 loss at Golden State, where one fan demanded the firing of whoever made Luka "Curry's primary assignment." Beating Toronto 131-125 brought only a lament about "absolutely zero depth." A winning record, it turns out, offers no protection against despair.
