What happened

The week opened like a resurrection. A 6-5 escape in Toronto had people calling it the best win of the year, and a 10-1 follow-up made the math look survivable. Then the 1-5 finish in Toronto, and Chicago, of all places, closed the door: 1-3, 1-3, 1-8, with an 11-8 win squeezed in to keep hope twitching. The turn was that Thursday loss to the White Sox, after which the season was, per the fanbase, over over. Everyone else is busy hating Cleveland.
