What happened

Two games in the Bronx, two nine-run beatings, season over at 0-2. The 0-9 opener was so lopsided that fans spent it defending Tolle, who gave up one hit, and warning that "if they lose game 1, Yankees can throw their entire bullpen to win game 2." They did. The turning point came in the 2-9 finale, when pulling Gray for Miller struck the sub as "disgraceful, braindead." Misery climbed from 66 to 84. The empire is "at risk of becoming Pompeii," and October lasted 48 hours.
