What happened
Oregon went to Champaign and came home with a 21-10 loss, which drops the season to 4-3 and the mood from bad to worse. The turning point wasn't a play so much as the realization, somewhere in the second half, that the offense had run out of ideas and nobody on the sideline had new ones. Misery climbed from 81 to 90. One fan already looked ahead and saw nothing: "We got zero shot against Northwestern." Another skipped the scouting entirely: "Fire Mehringer into the fucking sun." October has a way of shrinking expectations to fit.
