A seven-point loss in Austin, and the room has already begun drafting the obituary for the hire-from-within era.
The emotional rollercoaster
Ole Miss fans’ misery during the game, every 15 minutes. Up is worse.
What happened
Austin was the hinge, and it swung the wrong way. Ole Miss went to Texas at 5-1 with a season still pointed somewhere good, left 27-34 and 5-2, and spent the drive home relitigating every decision on the headset. One fan declared he "genuinely might have the dumbest HC in the SEC," which is the kind of thing said in October and remembered in December. Another was already bracing for a return to the "promoted from inside" era. Misery jumped from 22 to 70 in seven days. That math is the whole story.
