W 38-10 vs Southeast Missouri State · Sat, Sep 5 · 1-0 overall
What happened
Iowa State opened with the kind of game that exists to be won, and won it, 38-10 over Southeast Missouri State. The turning point came early, when the defense made clear that the visitors would not be allowed a competitive afternoon, and the rest unfolded as scheduled. The fanbase responded with the muted satisfaction of people who have learned not to extrapolate from September cupcakes. One week in, 1-0, and nobody in Ames is foolish enough to call it evidence. That part comes later.
